Tyler’s Red Alert AI Overhaul
Tyler’s Red Alert AI Overhaul is a single-player AI mod for Command & Conquer: Red Alert Remastered.

The goal was simple: make skirmish opponents feel more active, more adaptable, and less predictable without changing the basic feel of Red Alert.

The mod improves how the AI manages its economy, builds bases, chooses units, responds to threats, and prepares attacks. It also adds new behavior for naval maps, where the original AI rarely used the water effectively.

Another focus was fixing some of the smaller issues that could hurt AI performance. By default, multiple AI players sometimes build their bases too close together, creating traffic jams involving combat units and ore trucks. This mod encourages the AI to spread its structures out more, which has worked well during testing.
Naval and Island Map Improvements
One of the biggest changes is that the AI can now recognize when a map requires naval or air power.

On naval maps, isolated AI players can choose between two different specializations:
Naval Dominance
The AI focuses on shipyards, submarines, cruisers, destroyers, gunboats, and other available naval units.

It builds and replaces fleets instead of relying almost entirely on land armies that cannot reach the enemy.
Air Superiority
The AI focuses on airfields, helicopters, jets, and attacks against important enemy structures.

This gives isolated AI players another way to fight across water without needing a direct land route.

Because different AI players can choose different roles, naval matches should feel more varied. One opponent may build a large fleet while another concentrates on aircraft.
Other Improvements
The AI also has improved behavior for:

Opening build orders

Refinery and harvester management

Periodic checks for stalled or blocked harvesters

More spread-out base construction

Base expansion

Construction Yard recovery

Repairing damaged harvesters at Repair Depots

Using Minelayers to deploy mines around its base

Scouting the map

Choosing between infantry, vehicles, aircraft, and naval units

Building additional defenses when enemy ground forces land nearby

Preparing larger attacks instead of sending every unit individually

Reducing unnecessary production buildings

Reducing repeated or unnecessary strategy changes
The mod does not add new units or change the game’s graphics. It works with the units and structures already available in Red Alert and focuses entirely on how the computer player uses them.
Current State
This is a beta release, so some behavior is still being tested and improved.
Known Limitations

Aircraft may sometimes take too long to discover distant enemy bases on naval maps.

Harvesters may occasionally search for ore that is difficult to reach.

Some attack groups may assemble or behave oddly.

Results can vary depending on the map.

Compatibility

Made for Red Alert Remastered

Will not work with Tiberian Dawn

Intended for single-player Skirmish

Replaces
RedAlert.dll

Do not use it alongside another mod that also replaces
RedAlert.dll

Start a new match after enabling or updating the mod
This mod is still under active development, but it already gives the AI much better options on naval maps. Computer players can now build real naval forces or commit to an air-based strategy instead of sitting on an isolated island with a land army they cannot use.

Please leave a comment with your experience, including which maps you tested and anything unusual you noticed. I plan to check back in a month or two to see what people think and may release additional updates.

Cheers!
